Not every fine line on your face is a true wrinkle. Many are dehydration lines: temporary, caused by a lack of water in the most superficial layer of the skin, and different from expression lines, which are more structural and come from the movements your face repeats over the years.
How to recognise the difference
A simple way to get a sense of it: if the lines are more marked at the end of the day, or after a few hours without moisturiser, it is probably dehydration. If they stay exactly the same whatever you apply, and gather around the eyes, forehead or mouth, the areas that move most, they are more likely to be expression lines.
Texture helps too: dehydrated skin often looks duller and feels rough, while expression lines show themselves above all when the face is in motion, smiling or frowning.
Why the difference matters
A hydrating serum can visibly soften dehydration lines within days, but it will not do the same to a settled expression line, which needs a treatment designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production over time.
Treating one as though it were the other is the most common reason people try product after product without seeing results.
What to do
Assessment the skin with the FaceMap® Method is precisely about telling these apart: what is temporary and what is structural, so that a path can be built around the real cause rather than the symptom visible that day.
